A recent study published in Fertility and Sterility has shown that in ideal cases, transferring a single embryo during an in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle can produce the same pregnancy rates as transferring two embryos - while reducing the number of twins. Twin pregnancies carry a number of risks for both the mother and the babies, making singleton pregnancies the ideal result of IVF.

Dr. Nicole Noyes contributed to the article, telling Reuters Health that if doctors find good-quality embryos, "and you have a good prognosis patient, putting a single embryo in does not lower pregnancy rates."
