One in every six couples of reproductive age faces infertility. Although a wide variety of medical options are available to help you conceive, the path is not always easy or successful.
Your emotional health is just as important as your clinical well being during the evaluation and treatment process - which is why we offer comprehensive education and psychological support to assist you on this important journey. Our staff of trained specialists can help you:
- Clarify, express and address feelings, including those of isolation, frustration and despair
- Strengthen coping skills and develop strategies that work during the difficult times associated with infertility evaluation and treatment
- Explore and identify ways to balance work and family obligations
- Learn and apply stress management techniques to enhance your experience and possibly increase your chances to conceive
Because there are a variety of ways to help you achieve these goals, we offer the following support services:
Psychological screening is not routine for all couples undergoing in vitro fertilization; however, it may be required in certain cases. Because of the myriad issues associated with third party reproduction, psychological evaluations and counseling are required for all patients giving or receiving donor eggs, and those requiring donor sperm or surrogacy.
Psychotherapy for Individuals and Couples
Focused treatment for anxiety, depression, loss, grief, trauma and other responses to infertility can ease related stress. If you prefer a one-on-one approach, you can choose private, short-term therapy to address your specific issues and teach you healthy methods for coping and stress management.
For couples, infertility and treatment can trigger marital discord. This is especially true in the absence of effective communication to address individual, as well as collective wants, needs and desires. If you and your partner are at odds over treatment options, continuing treatment or other issues that fuel conflict and anxiety, our couples' treatment can help you. It focuses on improving communication and finding ways for you to support and nurture each other.
